How does Ethnocentricity cause conflict?

Ethnocentricity causes conflict between two cultures when one culture doesn’t accept or help embrace the other culture. In the movie the First Australians the British saw the Aboriginals as savage and wild because they didn’t wear clothes. The British saw the Aboriginals as ‘native’, and the description of native is ‘to be born’, the British could not except the fact that some cultures are not as educated or as civilized yet. When the British came to Australia, the Aboriginals did not what to do, as they spoke different languages to the British, and the British interfered with how the Aboriginals system and way of life. Like in the book called The Rabbits, the British took over the land, and brought foreign crops, animals and diseases. This led the land to be ruined, these actions created conflict between the Aboriginals and the British in order to preserve their land. Supposing the British had arrived to colonize Australia with out disrespecting the Aboriginals beliefs and laws, and then the process may have been less barbarous and brutal on both groups.

Julius Caesar Solo/Duet

Duet Acting Alistair Jones and Conor Cheng
Act 2 Scene 1 Pg 80-84 Lines 233-309
In this passage Portia is asking Brutus about what these mean are doing at their house, and what and what will happen. Portia is giving Brutus time and his space, so he can think. She is just trying to be a caring and understanding wife.

We chose this passage because it is significant to the story and what happens after this passage. This shows how it adds to the mood and helps characterize Brutus and Portia. Shows that Brutus is cautious and needs time to make decisions, due to the pressure from the conspirators, cause Brutus knows this is a major decision he is about to make. While with Portia, she is worried that Brutus will get into trouble and get hurt, and she wants to know what is going on so she can help. She is so determined she stabs herself.

BRUTUS

Portia, what mean you? wherefore rise you now?
It is not for your health thus to commit
Your weak condition to the raw cold morning.

PORTIA

Nor for yours neither. You've ungently, Brutus,
Stole from my bed: and yesternight, at supper,
You suddenly arose, and walk'd about,
Musing and sighing, with your arms across,
And when I ask'd you what the matter was,
You stared upon me with ungentle looks;
I urged you further; then you scratch'd your head,
And too impatiently stamp'd with your foot;
Yet I insisted, yet you answer'd not,
But, with an angry wafture of your hand,
Gave sign for me to leave you: so I did;
Fearing to strengthen that impatience
Which seem'd too much enkindled, and withal
Hoping it was but an effect of humour,
Which sometime hath his hour with every man.
It will not let you eat, nor talk, nor sleep,
And could it work so much upon your shape
As it hath much prevail'd on your condition,
I should not know you, Brutus. Dear my lord,
Make me acquainted with your cause of grief.

BRUTUS

I am not well in health, and that is all.

PORTIA

Brutus is wise, and, were he not in health,
He would embrace the means to come by it.

BRUTUS

Why, so I do. Good Portia, go to bed.

PORTIA

Is Brutus sick? and is it physical
To walk unbraced and suck up the humours
Of the dank morning? What, is Brutus sick,
And will he steal out of his wholesome bed,
To dare the vile contagion of the night
And tempt the rheumy and unpurged air
To add unto his sickness? No, my Brutus;
You have some sick offence within your mind,
Which, by the right and virtue of my place,
I ought to know of: and, upon my knees,
I charm you, by my once-commended beauty,
By all your vows of love and that great vow
Which did incorporate and make us one,
That you unfold to me, yourself, your half,
Why you are heavy, and what men to-night
Have had to resort to you: for here have been
Some six or seven, who did hide their faces
Even from darkness.

BRUTUS

Kneel not, gentle Portia.

PORTIA

I should not need, if you were gentle Brutus.
Within the bond of marriage, tell me, Brutus,
Is it excepted I should know no secrets
That appertain to you? Am I yourself
But, as it were, in sort or limitation,
To keep with you at meals, comfort your bed,
And talk to you sometimes? Dwell I but in the suburbs
Of your good pleasure? If it be no more,
Portia is Brutus' harlot, not his wife.

BRUTUS

You are my true and honourable wife,
As dear to me as are the ruddy drops
That visit my sad heart

PORTIA

If this were true, then should I know this secret.
I grant I am a woman; but withal
A woman that Lord Brutus took to wife:
I grant I am a woman; but withal
A woman well-reputed, Cato's daughter.
Think you I am no stronger than my sex,
Being so father'd and so husbanded?
Tell me your counsels, I will not disclose 'em:
I have made strong proof of my constancy,
Giving myself a voluntary wound
Here, in the thigh: can I bear that with patience.
And not my husband's secrets?

BRUTUS

O ye gods,
Render me worthy of this noble wife!

Knocking within
Hark, hark! one knocks: Portia, go in awhile;
And by and by thy bosom shall partake
The secrets of my heart.
All my engagements I will construe to thee,
All the charactery of my sad brows:
Leave me with haste.

Exit PORTIA

Learning Profile

My learning profile is Gestalt and my learning type is LL. That means that my dominate body parts are my right ear, right eye, right hand, and left foot. Since I am Gestalt, means that I right brained. Gestalt means that I prefer not to do things step by step or in a mannerly fashion.

I learn best when I use movement, or acting it out and by focusing on the whole idea, what the context is and its relevance. I need to be able to move while learning with a minimal external sensory stimulus. I need to be able to work alone and work in a quiet environment, especially when learning new things. The strategies the would help me in my learning is not step by step instructions, imagining the end result, using metaphors when problem solving. I would like my teachers to know that I almost always need something to play with, a pencil, eraser etc… And I have a huge disadvantage under stress and cannot learn easily when under stress. And that I prefer it when we get help and guide lines in class before, so that I can understand the job that needs to be done.

Driving Force of the Renaissance

"Church controls all, sees all, knows all and leads all."

Rembrandt calls the piece that I choose “The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp” This painting was oil on canvas and was made during the Renaissance. During the Renaissance art was very important, and so was the style of the art. In this painting the artist focused on the realism of the art. This painting shows that people in the Renaissance were discovering things about how their own bodies worked and what was inside of the human body. You can tell that they are intrigued on the genius of the human body, because all the spectators are watching inventively. I think that during that period of time this was completely mind blowing, so this was new and important, and also most people wanted to know these facts, and now they would have known. The renaissance was a time of asking questions and finding answers, and this painting shows exactly that.
